Unfortunately, the article is not online: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/04/02/120402fa_fact_caro ). It was one of the more dramatic pieces of history writing I’ve ever read. He did some impressive things with point of view, circling the action in cinematic fashion.

I missed that excerpt in the print version too! His work reminds me of Taylor Branch’s with MLK. Exhaustive yet somehow nimble.
